Every team have different players. We beat City in our own way. Other teams must do it their own way,” said Azpilicueta.”City are so good that you cannot let them dictate the game. After three defeats in two games, people were starting to talk about us (negatively) so to beat City was a big moment for us.”Now people are talking about us beating City but it’s only three points.”Three points against City is the same three points if we beat Brighton on Sunday.”The Spaniard also told the Daily Mail: “Was it my best performance in a Chelsea shirt? I’ve been here for a long time, so it’s hard to say. I’d prefer to focus on the team.” last_img read more

9 months agoEverton boss Marco Silva: A really important win

first_imgAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Everton boss Marco Silva: A really important winby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveEverton boss Marco Silva was pleased with their 2-0 win over Bournemouth.Kurt Zouma powerfully headed in his first goal for the club from Lucas Digne’s cross following a corner in the 61st minute, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added the second in the fifth minute of stoppage time.”It is a really important win,” Silva said. “I understand why you are asking me. We didn’t achieve the last results we wanted.”It was tough so we deserved the three points. We didn’t start the match well in the first 20-25 minutes. It was different the last 15 minutes, we controlled the game a bit better and started to create some chances.”But in that moment, they only had one clear chance and it was a foul on Zouma, I don’t understand how the referee didn’t see that foul. All the people in the stadium can see but that the referee and his assistants didn’t see that is strange.”In the second-half we started better and faster and breaking that pressure in a different way.” last_img read more

It’s a tough game coming up, but hopefully we can do well.”The manager believes we can win every single game and that’s the attitude we take into every game. It’s going to be a tough game, we know that – we’ll have to be at our best and hopefully we can be.” last_img read more

It’s international. Buckeye linebacker Joshua Perry was recently traveling back to the U.S. from Costa Rica. He, unfortunately, came across a Michigan fan at the airport. Then he had to sit in the same row as the Wolverines’ supporter on the plane. It was a friendly encounter, though, it seems. This pic is a gem! Listen: ESPN’s Brett McMurphy Says “Heavy Hitters” Like Jim Harbaugh, Tony Dungy Sold Oregon On Willie Taggart

According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, endorsements from Jim Harbaugh, Tony Dungy, and Oliver Luck helped sell the Ducks on Taggart.Early this morning, McMurphy broke the news that Taggart would be the next head coach at Oregon, a move that was officially announced this afternoon.#GoDucks pic.twitter.com/RoNmvbojaC— Oregon Football (@WinTheDay) December 7, 2016A few hours after breaking the news, McMurphy tweeted that three endorsements were key in Taggart getting the Ducks job: Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, and NCAA executive Oliver Luck.Willie Taggart had 3 key recommendations for Oregon job: Tony Dungy, Jim Harbaugh & Oliver Luck— Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) December 7, 2016He expanded on the role that these endorsements had in a podcast with The Oregonian‘s John Canzano.“(Taggart) played at Western Kentucky under Jim Harbaugh’s dad Jack Harbaugh. I was told one of the reasons that made him so attractive at Oregon were some of the heavy hitters that put in a glowing recommendation for him. Jim Harbaugh, Tony Dungy—you’re well aware Tony’s son played at Oregon, transferred, finished his career at USF—Tony also lives in Tampa. I saw Oliver Luck here in New York at the National Football Foundation event. He said ‘I saw your report, that’s great news about Willie,’ and he told me he had talked to (Oregon athletic director) Rob Mullens on Willie’s behalf because he had helped recruit Andrew Luck to Stanford. Also Bob Bowlsby, the Big 12 commissioner, who was Stanford’s athletic director, obviously he’s very familiar with Taggart. So that obviously played a big part.”With Stanford’s prominence in recent seasons, Taggart’s history there had to play a big part. After playing for Jack Harbaugh, Taggart coached under Jim Harbaugh as Stanford running backs coach from 2007-2009 before returning to his alma mater Western Kentucky to fill the head coaching job. Harbaugh showed what a big Taggart fan he is back in June, when he wore a Taggart USF jersey during a satellite camp.Obviously, Willie Taggart will need to prove it on the field before every Oregon fan buys in, and expectations in Eugene have gotten pretty high, but having endorsements from names like Harbaugh, Dungy, and Luck doesn’t hurt.[The Oregonian]last_img read more

Emery suggests Koscielny is close to Arsenal exit

first_imgArsenal head coach Unai Emery has expressed a desire to “continue working with the players that want to be here”, after revealing that Laurent Koscielny is close to a summer exit. The 33-year-old caused a stir earlier this month when he refused to travel with the Gunners squad for a pre-season tour of the United States, amid rumours of a potential return to France.Arsenal have already opened disciplinary proceedings against the veteran centre-back, who has reportedly expressed a desire to leave the club on a free transfer. Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Koscielny still has one year remaining on his existing contract at Emirates Stadium, which the club expect him to honour, but they are also open to any offers from potential suitors.Ligue 1 duo Rennes and Bordeaux have both been heavily linked with the Frenchman’s services, but no formal bids have been submitted as of yet. Emery’s side have won three of their four pre-season games to date, most notably claiming the scalp of German champions Bayern Munich with a 2-1 triumph last Thursday. The Gunners suffered their first defeat in the International Champions Cup against Real Madrid on penalties on Tuesday night and Emery discussed Koscielny’s future after the match. The 47-year-old manager confessed the France international is on his way out of the club and he expects a swift resolution to the issue before the start of the new season.”I tried to continue working and finding one solution between the club, between him and us,” Emery told Arsenal’s official website.”When he decided not to come here with us on tour, the solution is now only for the club and him.”He decided to be out. I respect him but I have a responsibility, he has a responsibility, and the club have their responsibility.”Now it’s an issue only for the club and him. My idea is to continue with the players we are working with, and the players that want to be here.”Laurent Koscielny Arsenal 2018-19Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both got themselves on the scoresheet against Madrid on Tuesday, continuing their rich vein of form as a forward pairing.Emery was pleased with the duo’s latest display and is looking forward to experimenting with different systems in attack throughout the 2019-20 campaign.”Their combination is very good but they can play both,” he added. “They were playing both and sometimes we are playing with one striker or two strikers or with one as a winger.”Aubameyang can play like a striker alone, like a striker with two and can play as a winger on the right or the left. But above all with him, we want to be very aggressive in the attacking third and moving forward to score with him.”When we are deciding to play with another player maybe they are more of a one-to-one winger or a player like Mesut, a player who goes deep to take the ball and keep our possession with him in the pitch.”It’s different in each moment and each match. But above all, with Aubameyang, we can take different options with him and he is very good and very rich for us.”last_img read more

CFB Expert Predicts This Top-10 Team Will Lose On Saturday

first_imgGeneral view of Martin Stadium.PULLMAN, WA – OCTOBER 9: General view of the game between the Washington State University Cougars and the University of Oregon Ducks on October 9 2004 at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington. The Ducks won 41-38. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)There are only three games left in the college football regular season. It is officially the stretch run.At 8-1, Washington State is ranked No. 8 in the country. They would need some help to get there, but if the Cougars can win out and win the Pac-12 title, they could reach the College Football Playoff.Of course, all of that changes if they drop one of these last three regular season games. At least one college football analyst thinks they’ll lose this week.CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval released his picks for this week. He is taking Colorado over Washington State in an upset in Boulder. After grinding out a win in Week 10, Washington State gets back into a shootout, which is more in its comfort zone. However, Colorado is dangerous enough and a much better team at home, so this one could get wild. This line stood out from the start and we haven’t seen that one head-scratching loss we usually get with Mike Leach. So, what the heck, right? Pick: ColoradoThe Buffaloes haven’t won in a month and are 5-4 after starting 5-0. A win this weekend would clinch bowl eligibility and get their season back on track,You can view all of Kercheval’s picks and analysis here.Colorado and Washington State will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.last_img read more
