Kolkata: Three persons including a woman were killed after a motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck.The victims have been identified as Shyam Bauri (23), Rupa Chatterjee (22) and Sudan Bauri (22). They were residents of Makariapara area of Barakar. The victims were going to Niamatpur area from Kulti along the GT Road when the incident occurred. Police said the motorcycle collided head on with a truck near Niamatpur under Kulti police station on Monday morning. Some locals rushed to the spot and took all the three injured victims to a hospital in Asansol. The doctors pronounced the victims brought dead. The incident caused traffic congestion along the GT Road for the nearly one hour. Vehicles were stranded on the busy road. After being informed police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Eyewitnesses told police that the truck was running at a high speed when the motorcycle suddenly came in front of it. The truck driver applied a sudden brake but failed to avert the accident. The truck driver sped up the vehicle following the accident to save himself from the mob. The victims were not wearing helmets and received critical injuries on their heads and other body parts. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that all the three victims were drunk at the time of the accident. The bodies have been sent for autopsy. The motorcycle was completely damaged due to the impact of the accident. Police are conducting raids to nab the truck driver.
