Conflict of Interest charge against Kapil Dev in focus

first_imgBoard of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials, many of them, are construing former captain Kapil Dev’s flood light business as a direct case of conflict of interest against his position as Chairman of the ad hoc Cricket advisory committee (CAC) tasked with picking the Indian team head coach. It’s emerged Dev Musco, a sports lighting company supplies floodlights to some leading Indian international cricket grounds. The website of the company says ‘Musco Lighting Pvt Ltd is a Sports Lighting Company incorporated in 1995 by a tie-up between Kapil Dev (cricketer) & Musco Sports Lighting LLC., USA’.The website has listed among its clients Test venues like Brabourne Stadium (CCI), Punjab Cricket Association in Mohali, currently under reconstruction Gujarat Cricket Association’s stadium at Motera and Orissa Cricket Association’s Baramati stadium.”The Ethics officer’s order with regards to VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly was quite clear that ‘one person, one post’ principle should be upheld at all cost.If the old CAC is now not functional because of Ethics officer’s conflict of interest order, what’s the point of appointing the equally conflicted Kapil Dev led committee to do the CAC’s job now,” a BCCI functionary told India Today. This particular conflict charge against the legend pertains to clause 38 (4) (o) of the new BCCI constitution which says “It is clarified that no individual may occupy more than one of the following posts at a single point in time except where prescribed under these rules: (o) Contractual entity (Broadcast, Security, Contractor etc).Earlier MPCA life member Sanjeev Gupta had filed a complaint to the BCCI Ethics officer to take suo moto cognizance, charging Kapil Dev of being in conflict on account of his flood light business as well as Directorial position in Indian Cricketers Association.advertisementDespite the charges, the Vinod Rai led Committee of Administrators (COA) has gone ahead and named the Kapil led committee also comprising of Shanta Rangaswami and Anshuman Gaikwad with the specific purpose of appointing India’s head coach pending their submitting an undertaking that they are not conflicted. Also See:last_img
