SE showCAES

first_img“We have someone from the financial aid office who gives a presentation,” Coursey said. “A lot of parents and students have questions about that, so it’s really helpful for prospective students to get some insight into making their college decisions.”High school students and college students looking to transfer to UGA are the event’s focus. Coursey said there will be breakout sessions for both. Faculty and staff from all departments of CAES will have information booths set up to provide students with information specific to each department. Current students will also be in attendance to provide their perspective to prospective students and parents. The event is free, but there will be a meal served, so participants are asked to preregister at https://ugeorgia.qualtrics.com. For more information, contact Coursey at (229) 386-3077 or at [email protected](Kyle Dawson is an intern at the UGA Tifton Campus.) Recruitment for the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is the focus of the Southeast (SE) showCAES event on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Bulloch Center for Agriculture in Statesboro, Georgia. The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m.Breanna Coursey, admissions counselor at the UGA Tifton Campus, endorses showCAES as a great way for prospective students and parents to learn about admission to UGA, and more specifically, the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.“The goal of this event is to allow students to learn more about the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the University of Georgia. CAES has 22 different undergraduate majors,” Coursey said. “We will also have a presentation from UGA admissions, so if students are interested in UGA as a whole and in learning more about the admission process, then they can come and ask questions.”Coursey said that SE showCAES allows students closer to Tifton, Georgia, the chance to explore UGA Tifton as an option. “If students who live in the eastern part of the state are interested in UGA Tifton, this event is beneficial for them because they do not have to drive very far,” Coursey said. “Also, students in the southeast part of the state may have never heard of UGA Tifton, and this event will allow them to see what we have to offer as well.”Coursey said many students don’t know that they can attend UGA Tifton and receive the same degree a student might receive on the UGA Athens Campus. Many more students don’t know all that UGA Tifton has to offer. Events like SE showCAES can shed light on educational opportunities.“It’s kind of like a career fair because a lot of students don’t realize the opportunities that are available at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,” Coursey said. “SE showCAES is designed for students to explore opportunities and learn more about the University of Georgia. Many students have a narrow perception of agriculture and believe that, unless they are interested in farming, agriculture is not a viable option. Agriculture is the largest industry in the state and our college encompasses everything from business to medicine. If a student is interested in job security, CAES would be a great fit.” Parents of students are also encouraged to come. There will be parts of the event geared specifically toward parents, including discussion on financial aid.last_img read more

Chinese tourism market – the latest indicators and trends

first_imgAlong with Chinese tourists, the arrivals of Indians grew the most by 20%, Japanese by 10% and Americans by 5%. This is really great news for British hoteliers and caterers. This is a great example of how to turn a situation that seems to have only negative connotations into smart advantages and achieve positive economic effects. Reading the tourist indicators on various world portals that deal with this topic, all the detachments report on the record arrivals of Chinese tourists.  They travel more and more, so in 2018, the average Chinese person traveling abroad traveled 3,9 times. The Chinese increased the number of days on the trip to 8,5, which is 1,5 days longer than the year before. On average, they visited three cities on the trip, one city more than the year before. Increasingly popular are combined trips, the first part business, and then the tourist part which lasts an average of 4 days. They go to the US for fun, and Germany is a destination for historical attractions. The main motivator is always leisure and something new to get to know. When they arrive at their destination they will literally turn every stone to find new information and experience something new. When the First Regional Conference on the Chinese Tourism Market was held at the beginning of the year, the market generally received this information lukewarmly. Hundreds of conference attendees attended the conference more out of curiosity and less to seriously consider or take concrete steps to attract the Chinese tourism market. Even then, one of the most common questions before the conference itself was “will Chinese travel agencies be present at the conference?”, And there was no interest in attending the conference in the negative answer.  The good news for hotels is that 92% of them will stay in the hotel and taste local specialties, of course if you offered them, and that they will spend money in the hotel souvenir shop, on average about 25,00 eur / day… of course, if the souvenir shop is stocked with local souvenirs and items. They will spend in the hotel on other services and facilities if offered, especially on the wellness & spa. The average daily consumption in the hotel in 2018 reached 165,00 eur / person. Who wouldn’t want guests like that !? Photo: ProConcept Asia is interesting for only 49% of Chinese tourists this year. 60% of Chinese tourists want to travel to new locations, to countries where they have not been before. At the top of the wish list are Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Croatia is on the short list of 5 countries in Europe that are most desirable to visit.  Follow us on www.proconcept.hr for more information. CONSUMPTION OF CHINESE TOURISTS Millennials have drastically increased their consumption, by as much as 73% of those born in the 90s, and over 50% of those born in the 80s. In 2018, their daily consumption per person was 310,00 eur. If we compare this with the last TOMAS report for 2017, the average tourist in Croatia spent 78,77 eur per day! Do we want Chinese tourists? When choosing accommodation, they rely more on the reviews of previous tourists, than on the official category and stars. Despite the high spending, they really care about the value for money, so for 24% of them this information is crucial when choosing where to stay. Photo: ProConcept Everything new and all the locations where there aren’t a lot of Chinese are very popular. They want to go where they will not meet other Chinese. This is very good information for every corner of our beautiful country. THERE IS NO STONE THAT WILL NOT TURN IN SEARCH OF INTERESTING FACTS You can find out this and other useful information and knowledge at the Second Regional Conference on the Chinese Tourism Market to be held early next year. ProConcept is the exclusive representative of IPPWORLD for Croatia and the countries of the region. To get you interested in this topic, try to read the following information carefully and think about why and how to bring Chinese tourists to your destination. What do they spend the most on? The Chinese want to experience the local, local tastes, traditions, experiences, vivid experiences. Gone are the days when they exclusively demanded their Chinese dishes. Today, as many as 69% of them consider trying local specialties their favorite pastime, 65% of them want to visit local sights, and 43% of them want to buy a real authentic local souvenir.  Linguistic and cultural adaptation are the basic preconditions for access to the largest tourist market in the world. Would you buy something from a website that is in a language you don’t understand? The situation is the same with potential tourists, they will make a reservation on the website of the global hotel brand and on the website whose content they understand to read, study the offer and decide to make a reservation. Many hotels in our area have their websites translated into German, French, English, Italian, and many other European languages, lately also into Slovenian, so it is really high time to include Chinese and other Asian languages among these languages, such as Korean, Japanese, and even Indian. FANS OF EVERYTHING LOCAL For the services of creative translation of your promotional materials into Chinese and promotion in the Chinese tourism market, send an inquiry to [email protected] or call 01/20 10 122. This information could not be noticed in the domestic media where we regularly encounter pessimistic lamentations and lamentations about our season that has failed. No wonder, given that most of our tourism happens on its own. It sounds ugly, but it is so. Chinese tourists are the biggest consumers in the world! In the last year, they have increased their consumption by 40%, and as the trend continues, statistics say that in the next year they will increase their consumption by 60% compared to the current year. Millennials are at the forefront of this trend, spending incredibly on everything new they see, on local attractions, on gastronomic delights, and even better, leading them to consumption and their parents who often take them on trips. With all this information in mind, it is necessary to focus, to become linguistically visible, and that means to provide information about yourself in Chinese. “What I don’t know I won’t buy.”  NEW AND EXPLORED DESTINATIONS ARE IN The BBC reports in its news that this season they have an influx of Chinese tourists like never before, and that their consumption has increased incredibly! This probably also happened due to the fall in the value of the pound against the dollar, but the British made the best possible use of Brexit in any case, in terms of tourist demand and consumption. Chinese tourists are also exploring local experiences in choosing accommodation. More and more of them want to try accommodation in a private apartment, so last year 68% of them stayed in a hotel, and 48% in private apartments for rent. Since they visit more cities on their travels, they also change the types of accommodation. Together with you, we can make your product speak the language of global tourists, all in order to generate the revenue you have planned. Photo: ProConcept Explanations and presented statistics on the habits of Chinese tourists did not help much. It is still a fact that 80% of Chinese tourists travel individually, not in a group, to our hoteliers, vague and unbelievable information, so they still do not see Chinese tourists unless they are in a group of 30-40 older Chinese rushing from location to location. But it’s really not Chinese outbound tourism !!! IPPWORLD Agency is your partner that offers multilingual content translations and media networking in one place for all your needs in global branding and promotion of offers for hoteliers and caterers, lifestyle and retail. Gas Supplier Selected for New LNG Facility at Gothenburg Port

first_imgSwedegas, which is currently constructing a permanent LNG facility at the Port of Gothenburg, has entered into an agreement with gas supplier Barents NaturGass for the facility. This means that in just a few months, vessels will be able for the first time to bunker LNG at the permanent facility at the port.“Gothenburg based shipping companies have been amongst the first to adopt LNG in Sweden. Several vessels have already been built and launched which are ready to run on LNG. We are keen to start our LNG supply services and meet the customer’s needs,” Gudrun Rollefsen, CEO of Barents NaturGass, commented.LNG supplier Skangas is already operating at the Port of Gothenburg, supplying ships with LNG using a ship-to-ship-system.“We can see that the demand for LNG will increase at the Port of Gothenburg, and it is vital that the number of alternatives continues to grow. With the Swedegas facility, the port will have more LNG choices than previously on a competitive market with several gas suppliers, whilst at the same time there will be a larger range of bunkering methods,” Jill Söderwall, Head of Commercial Operations at the Energy Port, commented. With the opening of the Swedegas facility in August, LNG customers at the Port of Gothenburg will have three bunkering alternatives: ship-to-ship, directly from a road truck, and pipe-to-jetty. All three methods can be employed whilst the vessels are loading or unloading, according to the port. The facility is being built at the quayside at the Energy Port at the Port of Gothenburg, where vessels can bunker LNG while loading or unloading. The LNG will be brought to the facility using trailers or containers, which will unload at a discharge station. The LNG will then be distributed via a vacuum-insulated cryogenic pipeline to the quays in the Skarvik area at the Energy Port.In autumn 2016, the first LNG bunkering took place at the port, and since then the number of LNG-powered ships has gradually increased. In 2017, 111 LNG ships called the Port of Gothenburg. From January through April of 2018, LNG was bunkered 44 times.last_img read more

Clear Lake council approves funding for joint fireworks display with Mason City, Cerro Gordo County

first_imgCLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council last night approved a $2500 donation of city funds toward a tentative joint fireworks display on July 3rd at the North Iowa Events Center sponsored by the cities of Clear Lake and Mason City and Cerro Gordo County. The Mason City Exchange Club traditionally holds its fireworks celebration on the Mason City High School campus on July 3rd, but due to COVID-19 and the need to socially distance the spectators, the North Iowa Events Center will be the location for the show.City Administrator Scott Flory says he talked with Mason City and county officials as well as the Exchange Club about the idea and they were all for it.  “We’ve had several conversations with them. We still have some work to do on that. We still need to talk logistically with the Department of Public Health and kind of work through some of those issues. Typically the Exchange Club has their show out at high school and this would be at the North Iowa Fairgrounds. We’d have a show on July 3rd. Flashing Thunder would be the fireworks provider shooting them off.”Flory says it would give an opportunity for people to stay socially distanced in their cars and still have an Independence Day fireworks display.  “Likely visitors would stay in their cars and watch the fireworks show from their cars. Probably about a 20-25 minute fireworks show. Certainly nowhere near the scale obviously that Clear Lake puts on, but there are very few in the state if any that would rival that kind of show. Again it gives folks a legal, safe alternative to watch fireworks with their family and children, kids, in again that opportunity.”Mayor Nelson Crabb reiterated why a traditional 4th of July fireworks display in Clear Lake could create a health hazard potentially spreading COVID-19.  “We also have a lot of visitors that come to down, as well as townfolk, that will go down to the beach area, to the sea wall area, to North Lakeview as well as the City Park, all the way back. That’s shoulder to shoulder, back to back, and that’s not really safe under these conditions that we are in right now. So this offers that alternative.”Clear Lake’s contribution is solely city funds and does not include money from the Chamber’s fireworks endowment fund. The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors will consider approving a $2500 contribution at their meeting later this morning, and the Mason City City Council will consider approval of a $5000 contribution at their meeting tonight.last_img read more

first_img Girl international Elizabeth Mallett underlined her fine form when she scored a six-shot win in the Midlands South regional women’s championship at The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club. Elizabeth, who was joint top qualifier at the European girls’ team championship, also won the junior category. In addition, together with her sister, Victoria, and Lisa Barton (Brandon Wood), she won the team shield for Warwickshire. The Malletts both play at Sutton Coldfield Ladies’. Pacers’ George has surgery on broken leg

first_imgIndiana Pacers’ Paul George is taken off the court after he was injured during the USA Basketball Showcase game Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Las Vegas. (AP Photo/John Locher)LAS VEGAS (AP) — Indiana Pacers All-Star Paul George has undergone successful surgery on his broken right leg and is expected to remain in the hospital for about three days. The 6-foot-9 George had an operation at Sunrise Hospital to repair the open tibia-fibula fracture, USA Basketball said in a statement early Saturday morning. Dr. David Silverberg, Dr. Joseph Yu and USA Basketball team physician Riley Williams, were present for the surgery, the release said.George suffered the gruesome right leg injury late in the U.S. national team’s intrasquad scrimmage Friday night.  He leaped to contest a fast-break layup by James Harden with 9:33 left in the fourth quarter and his leg smashed against the bottom of the backboard stanchion and crumpled.Trainers immediately ran onto the floor and after roughly 10 minutes of stoppage, George was taken out of the arena on a stretcher. With players looking visibly upset, coach Mike Krzyzewski then announced to the crowd that the scrimmage would not be finished out of respect to George and his family. On Saturday morning, Larry Bird, the Pacers president of basketball operations, issued an updated statement saying it’s too early to start talking about George’s expected return.“We are hopeful at some point next week Paul will return to Indianapolis to continue his recovery,” Bird said. “There is no question about the impact on our team but our goal is to be as strong-willed and determined as Paul will be in coming back.  Our franchise has had setbacks in its history but has demonstrated the abilities to recover. Paul will provide the example of that off the court and it is up to the rest of us to provide that example on the court. Any discussion regarding the future of our team would be inappropriate at this time. Our focus is solely on Paul and doing whatever we can to help.”Bird also said the Pacers are committed to helping the national team give basketball a global reach.“This is a first for us in USA Basketball, to have something like this take place,” USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said. “It’s a tough situation for our entire organization, the coaches, the players. Very, very emotional. There’s no way the game could have gone on under the circumstances.”Doctors estimate a full recovery could take as much as 18 months.Dr. Patrick Kersey, who treated Louisville guard Kevin Ware when he sustained a similar injury during the NCAA tournament regional finals in 2013, said George will likely need 6 to 12 weeks to recover from surgery and another 6 to 10 weeks to get back to a normal walking gait. Kersey is not treating George.A complete recovery, Kersey said, normally takes 12 to 18 months, though the fact he is an elite athlete in top shape could speed up that timeframe. The hardest part for the Pacers might be keeping George off the court once he thinks he’s ready.“It’s a challenge because (athletes) want to push the envelope always,” Kersey said. “The question that is already being asked this morning is how quickly can he get back. He needs to heal. First, he has to get back to a normal life, then his body needs to work in an efficient way and once those pieces are in place, he can start training.”George was considered a lock to make the final 12-man roster for the World Cup of Basketball that starts later this month in Spain.“Thanks everybody for the love and support,” he wrote on Twitter. “I’ll be ok and be back better than ever!!! Love y’all!!”The Americans planned to reduce the 20-player pool to 14 or 15 players Saturday, but put off those plans after George’s injury.“Everything’s on hold right and it should be,” Krzyzewski said. “It would be so inappropriate for us to talk about anything else when there’s a serious injury like this.”The defending champion U.S. team had already been weakened by player losses. Forwards Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard had all pulled out in recent weeks.Krzyzewski and Colangelo refused to discuss the roster after the game, saying they didn’t even know when they would make roster reductions.“As an organization, we’re just going to let a little bit of time go by here before we address anything like rosters, all that stuff,” Colangelo said. “It seems so unimportant in the big scheme of things when you have something like this take place. It puts things in perspective.”George would have been a candidate to start for the Americans alongside Kevin Durant. The two, along with Harden, spent the week playing in 1-on-1 competitions after practice, pushing one another while building chemistry leading up to Friday night’s game.George led the Pacers to the best record in the Eastern Conference before they were eliminated by Miami in the Eastern Conference finals. The Americans have to be down to 12 players before they open the tournament on Aug. 30. They are scheduled to take the next week off before reconvening in Chicago for their next practice on Aug. 14.Some NBA executives have long been concerned about injuries to players during summer competitions. Pau Gasol, then playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, broke his foot while leading Spain to the 2006 world title, and Manu Ginobili injured his ankle while playing for Argentina in the 2008 Olympics. He is sitting out the World Cup while recovering from a stress fracture in his right leg.“Anything can happen anywhere, a lot of things happen,” said Krzyzewski, who was coaching Duke against Louisville when the Cardinals’ Kevin Ware broke his leg during the 2013 NCAA tournament.“Tonight it happened during a basketball game. We need to take care of that,” Krzyzewski said. “It doesn’t mean it’ll happen again and again and again; it means that it happened right now.”last_img read more

It separates developed, developing and underdeveloped countries in three broad areas covering life expectancy, education or access to knowledge, and income as an indicator of standard of living. These indicators are complemented by separate indices for gender, inequality and multidimensional povertyFirst published in 1990, the HDI celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2010. The previous 19 reports are all accessible from the UNDP website.Analysts use complex equations to calculate values for each of the three categories, and the final HDI score is taken as the geometric mean of the three.South Africa’s score places it amongst the top 10 countries on the continent. Other medium development countries include China, Botswana, India, Egypt and Thailand. The top nation is again Norway, while Zimbabwe remains at the bottom of the table. However, said the UNDP, progress need not depend on massive spending. It named Ethiopia, Cambodia and Benin, which all made gains in education and public health rather than income, among the most improved countries of the past 20 years.Slow progressSouth Africa’s life expectancy has been calculated at 51.97 years, while people receive a mean of 8.12 years of schooling, and the gross national income per capita is R68 747.72 (US$9 812.12).The report found that although South Africans’ life expectancy decreased by nine years between 1990 and 2010, over the same period the mean years of schooling increased by almost two years and the expected years of schooling increased by about the same value. Gross national income increased by 20% over the last two decades.South Africa’s 2010 HDI score of 0.597 is above the sub-Saharan average of 0.389, and is also above the average of 0.592 for medium human development countries. The complete report may be downloaded (PDF, 11MB) from the website of the UNDP.Lifting South Africa’s profile“While Brand South Africa works to lift the profile of South Africa’s global competitiveness around the world, it is always mindful of the broader reputation drivers and the context these bring to a purely investment driven conversation by our stakeholders,” said Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola.Reports like the HDI are important in this light, said Matola, because they influence reputation as well as perceptions of future investment potential for South Africa in terms of a healthy and educated work force capable of high levels of productivity.South Africa’s overall HDI score experienced gradual improvements between 1990 and 2005. Since 2005, its overall score has remained stable and continues to trend in line with the global average.“South Africa ranks eighth out of the broader sub-Saharan region, behind countries like Botswana, Namibia and Gabon. However, South Africa performs well in the region when assessing the levels of multidimensional poverty, where it is scored the best,” said Matola.Multidimensional poverty is a measure of serious deprivations in terms of health, education and living standard. It combines the number of deprived with the intensity of their deprivation. South Africa has 3% of its population living in some form of deprivational poverty relative to a country like Niger, which has 93%.Among the four emerging markets that make up the Bric structure, South Africa performed ahead of India (ranked 119) and behind Brazil (73), Russia (65) and China (89).“It is important to contextualise South Africa’s development alongside other emerging markets to ensure that not only our economic growth but our people dimensions are enhanced at a similar rate to other comparable nations,” said Matola.STYLE–> (Image: MediaClubsouthafrica.com.
