AV House / BAK Architects

first_imgPhotographs:  Gustavo Sosa PinillaSave this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaText description provided by the architects. The 20m x 30m field is located in the forest of Mar Azul and its particularity is an important and constant slope in the direction of one of its diagonals. The views from the front are protected by the vegetation, very profuse all over the property.Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaThe order of the client was a house for rent, about 100m2, with an aesthetic-constructive proposal similar to the other houses built in the area by the studio. It was required the basic needs of a summer house: two bedrooms, one with private bathroom, an integrated kitchen and places to be outdoors.Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaImposed a materiality and a basic program without any particularity, it was sought in the peculiarities of the plot the subject to deal with the project. It was then proposed that different uses could be located in different volumes that would be arranged naturally into the slope. This first decision triggered successive solutions derived from it: the turn of the plan in relation to the sides of the lot in order to match its natural slope was the first, with this axis alignment of the house in east-west direction and, consequently, the resolution of two clearly differentiated façades.Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaThe rotation also determined the access from the façade that opens onto the street and the expansion place of the house towards the opposite. The entry to the house was proposed in the center of the plan, i.e. the midpoint of the slope and at the same level of the sector dining room, kitchen and outdoor expansion. From there one ascends to the quieter areas (the bedrooms) and descends to the area of contemplation facing the fireplace.Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaThe house is constructed with two basic materials: exposed concrete and glass. The slabs of the different volumes are supported through concrete walls and beams, and were finished with a minimum slope in order to produce faster runoff of rainwater. H21 concrete was used with the addition of a fluidifiant so that this mixture, with little amount of water to harden, results very compact and doesn’t require sealing. The few interior walls of hollow bricks are finished in concrete screed; floor cloths are also from concrete screed divided with aluminum plates. The openings are of dark bronze anodized aluminum. The heating system, since there is no natural gas in the area, was resolved with a system that combines a fireplace, bottled gas stoves and electric stoves.Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa PinillaExcept the beds, couches and chairs, the rest of the equipment of this house is solved in concrete.Save this picture!SectionProject gallerySee allShow lessDetroit River Front Competition Entry / AMAArticlesLansdowne Park Sports Center Proposal / Cannon DesignArticles Share “COPY” Houses ArchDaily ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/309330/av-house-bak-architects Clipboard ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/309330/av-house-bak-architects Clipboard AV House / BAK Architects Area:  110 m² Year Completion year of this architecture project AV House / BAK ArchitectsSave this projectSaveAV House / BAK Architects “COPY” Photographs Architects: BAK arquitectos Area Area of this architecture project Save this picture!© Gustavo Sosa Pinilla+ 16 Share 2011 Argentina CopyAbout this officeBAK arquitectosOfficeFollowProductsGlassConcrete#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesDabasVilla GesellHotels and Restaurants3D ModelingArgentinaPublished on December 20, 2012Cite: “AV House / BAK Architects” 20 Dec 2012. Is it time now for FedNow?

first_img ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr continue reading » In terms of expectations, the American consumer is running ahead of the payments engines that help drive their everyday financial lives. That explains the “let’s get going” tone among some in the financial services world to the Federal Reserve’s recent announcement that it plans to develop FedNow, an around-the-clock real time payment and settlement service.“I think a lot of consumers would be surprised to learn that their payments are not occurring in real time already,” says Glen Sarvady, veteran financial services analyst and principal at 154 Advisors in Atlanta, GA.Sarvady says the Fed’s move to join the growing movement of money in real time or close to it will help reduce the confusion and irritation consumers feel when they find out a payment hasn’t settled immediately or a deposit is being held.last_img read more

India rescuers pull 4-year-old survivor from collapsed building as toll climbs

first_imgRescuers in India pulled a four-year-old boy from the rubble of a collapsed building to loud cheers on Tuesday, hours after the five-story apartment block came down “like a house of cards”, killing 11 and burying up to 60 others. The accident late Monday in the western town of Mahad led three disaster-response teams and sniffer dogs to work through the night, combing tin sheets, twisted metal and broken bricks.Officials said many residents of the 47 flats inside the building were spared because they had already fled the town to escape the coronavirus pandemic. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear but building collapses are common during India’s June-September monsoon, with old and rickety structures buckling after days of non-stop rain.National Disaster Response Force spokesman Sachidanand Gawde told reporters that locals and emergency workers had retrieved the bodies of 11 victims in addition to the little boy who survived the collapse.Video of the rescue effort showed onlookers applauding and cheering as the child was plucked out of the wreckage and hauled up on a stretcher.Estimates of the number trapped ranged from 20 to 70 on Tuesday morning after dozens managed to flee when the building began to shake. Topics : Residents’ complaintsAs emergency workers made their way through the wreckage, looking for survivors, distressed relatives watched, desperate for news of their loved ones.”Three people from my family are stuck under the rubble — my mother, my sister and my nephew,” said Gazala, a doctor who preferred to give only her first name to AFP.Mustafa Chafekar, a resident who had been in home quarantine after testing positive for the virus, told the Mumbai Mirror that he and his family of five initially thought they were experiencing an earthquake.”We ran down immediately… The whole [structure] collapsed right in front of us,” the 39-year-old said of their escape. He said residents had previously complained to the builders about the condition of the complex.Local politician Manik Motiram Jagtap told TV9 Marathi that the structure was 10 years old and built on “weak” foundations.”It fell like a house of cards,” Jagtap said.Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was “saddened”.”My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their dear ones. I pray the injured recover soon,” he said. The monsoon plays a vital role in boosting agricultural harvests across South Asia. But it also causes widespread death and destruction, unleashing floods, triggering building collapses and inundating low-lying villages. The death toll from monsoon-related disasters this year has topped 1,200, including more than 800 in India. The building collapse is a further blow to the state of Maharashtra, already hit hard by the coronavirus, with the region accounting for more than a fifth of India’s more than three million infections. The pandemic has also cast a shadow over India’s ongoing Ganesha Chaturthi festival, with Hindu devotees ordered to sharply scale down celebrations and rituals honoring the much loved elephant god. “No one knows how many people are actually stuck inside,” a Mahad police official told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that authorities had initially feared much worse, with early estimates as high as 200.Mahad legislator Bharat Gogawale told AFP that many of the building’s occupants appeared to have been out shopping when the accident occurred around 7:00 pm.Others had left the town altogether, preferring to wait out the pandemic in their home villages.”Many families were not residing in the building as they went to their native places due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown,” district official Nidhi Choudhari told the Press Trust of India.last_img read more

Prosecutors request that the face-biting murder suspect be taped during psychological evaluation

first_imgProsecutors are requesting that the Tequesta teen who reportedly killed a couple and began eating their faces be taped during a psychological evaluation. The request was made after defense attorneys claimed that the then teen, Austin Harrouff, was not mentally aware when the incident took place in 2016.The victim’s John Stevens and Michelle Mischon were watching tv in their open garage when Harrouff attacked and killed them. A neighbor went over to help, however, he was serverly injured by Harrouff before he retreated back to his home and called the police.A responding officer reported that when he found Harrouff he was ripping pieces of flesh off of Stevens face with his teeth and was making animal noises. It took several officers and a stun-gun to remove Harrouff from Stevens’ body.Harrouff’s defense attorneys are currently fighting the motion to allow a recording of his examination saying that if the tapes are used in court and will violate Harrouff’s right not to testify.Harrouff’s case is set to go to trial in November.last_img read more
